Bristol Folk House
Bristol Folk House is an adult education centre and live music venue at 40a Park Street (BS1 5JG). Its own history page traces its origins to 1887 in a poor docklands area of the city, and to a programme of classes set up in 1920 with support from the University of Bristol, the WEA and Bristol City Council; its website carries the line learning for pleasure since 1920.
The Park Street site was bought in 1958, and the foundation stone was laid in 1963; the building was completed in 1964 and formally opened by the Minister of Education, Sir Edward Boyle. The Folk House became a registered charity in 1960 and says it receives no government or council funding, relying on course fees, venue hire, members and fundraising.
At weekends it hosts folk, roots and acoustic music, and listings give a capacity of 160. Upcoming concerts we have listed appear below, soonest first.
