St George's Bristol
St George's Bristol is a concert hall in a former church on Great George Street, off Park Street, on the lower slopes of Brandon Hill (BS1 5RR). Wikipedia says the building was designed by Sir Robert Smirke in the Greek Revival style and built between 1821 and 1823; it is Grade II* listed and was one of Bristol's Waterloo churches, the only one in the city funded from the first grant under the Church Building Act 1818.
St George's Music Trust was formed in 1976 and turned the church into a concert venue. After extensive renovation in 1999 it reopened that October as St George's Bristol. Wikipedia gives the main hall's seating as 562, and says the crypt holds a bar and recording studios used regularly by the BBC.
The programme covers classical, jazz, folk, world music and opera, with more than 200 events a year. Upcoming concerts we have listed appear below, soonest first.
